Alongside the technical training, we take the utmost care to develop the musicality, artistry, performance and stage skills required to become a confident performer, a reliable corps de ballet member, and a striking soloist.
To ensure our dancers are fully prepared for the professional world of dance, we develop these skills with:
Repertoire and Stagecraft classes - teaching excerpts/choreography from major classical and contemporary works, hair and stage make-up, stage and theatre etiquette
Eisteddfod (competition) solos - careful preparation teaching our students how to rehearse a solo piece, how to deal with nerves and competition, pre-performance preparation, following up with review and analysis of the performance.
Eisteddfod (competition) groups - teaching our dancers how to interact with other dancers, how to perform in a group, to synchronise movements and retain formations, as well as developing versatile and adaptable dancers with last-minute changes of formations and choreography - all vital skills for a company dancer.
End-of-term Displays - our students perform in a studio setting to their peers, teachers, parents and friends, showcasing their Exam Work, Repertoire, Improvisation and own Choreography.
Professional Stage Productions - each year ABDA presents an end-of-year stage production in a professional theatre, with custom-made costumes, professional sound and lighting design. Original works are choreographed on our students in ballet, neo-classical, contemporary, jazz and character dance by the ABDA teachers and/or guest choreographers.
Galas/Special Events - from time to time, ABDA dancers are selected or invited to dance at special events or galas.
